Iceboat Larry's stories and recaps (may not be completely accurate, but will always be entertaining)
Follow Larry's adventures in ice boating. Larry will tell a
story of his experiences after each weekend of sailing and recap the
season at it's end. Sailing Saturday January 23rd, 2010 Gull LakeLet's start out with GREAT TIME!!!!
We arrived at the launch at 8:30 AM. Of course, we were the first to show. The ice looked great. I rated it an 9 and there was no snow on it. Al's boat was unloaded by 8:45. Other people started to arrive by 9:00. There were probably 40 boats on the ice by 10:00. It was almost like being up north with all of our Elk Lake friends;Beth & Rob, Robert, Ed, Al, Doug, & others. We sailed with at least 6 J boats, Arrows, Nites, Skeeters, (Al's Adrenaline), Ice Scream and some DN's. Wind was good (10-15) all day. There were no mishaps.
We would like to extend our thanks to the Gull Lake Club for putting up with us, even though we wore our hats in the bar. The country club was gracious enough to allow us to use the facilities ... sans the hats...
A young lady in the bar took issue with our wearing of hats. Memo to me: do it like they did in The Blues Brothers..Tip the hat and inquire "HOW MUCH FOR THE WOMEN?"
Here is a short video from the weekend
Sailing the weekend of January 2-3, 2010
This was our second weekend of sailing in southeastern Michigan.
So far no great incidents have happened. We are still waiting for Al to sail
Adrenaline for the first time this season. He did sail his dn for about 20 min.
I think he could not see very well laying on his back! Robert is still able to
get that big boat of his moving not sure how he gets it to move, you know he's
not as small as he looks in the pictures. Waiting for Justin to get his Arrow done,
he says soon. Below is a short video of Al in my iceboat "Ice Scream"
Here is Larry's watch, this is why he is late getting his season recap to me
STEP 1: You go to the bar, buy a beer and put the receipt on the pin
STEP 2: To check the time you just read it from the reciept.
To adjust the watch, just buy a new beer and it will show the correct time again.
Larry is currently working on his video recap and should have it to us shortly,
I Hope!
One of the rare instances when Al lets Larry handle sharp objects (with close supervision)
Larry has had some of the most exciting experiences in
iceboating. His sailing and enthusiasm is like no other!Check out the video below
of Larry sailing through puddles, turn up the volume and listen to
the screaming going on
